King Barlas was given this crown, not by birth rights but by honour of his bravery. He valiantly defended the Maidens of the East Glenns in the most chivalrous manner, as they were being hung from their ankles by a pious hoard of drunkards accusing them of witchery. I mean, they weren't wrong, but King Barlas bravely clobbered each drunkard and restored the Maiden's feet to the ground and thereby their skirts to their rightful positions. The Maidens declared Barlas to be a true hero, both brave and chivalrous, and concocted a little mischief and magic to give him a title worthy of him. Which is how King Barlas became King Barlas.
